This policy explains what personal data Tipsy Juniper collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. We keep it short on purpose: we collect very little.

1. Who we are

Tipsy Juniper ("we", "us") runs this website. We are Tipsy Juniper, and we are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. To contact us, use the Contact form in the menu at the top of any page.

2. What we collect and why

Chat questions

When you use the chat, we receive the text of your question. If you use the microphone button, your browser turns your speech into text, and we receive only the text. We use the text to create an answer. We ask you not to include personal information in your questions. We do not store your chat messages on our own servers.

To create the answer, your question is sent to an AI service provider (currently Anthropic), which processes it on our behalf. Such providers may keep technical logs for a limited time under their own terms.

Usage limits

To stop abuse and keep costs under control, we limit how many questions each visitor can ask per day. To do that, we process your IP address and keep only a one-way scrambled version of it (a "hash"), together with a daily counter. These counters are deleted automatically after about 35 days.

Your email address

If you join the weekly letter, we collect your email address, the date, where you signed up, and a record that you agreed. We use it to send you what you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails, or by contacting us through the Contact option in the menu at the top of any page.

Information stored on your device

Our site saves two small items in your browser's local storage: your answer to the age question, and your cookie choice. If you are a member of our team and log in to the private corporate area, a session cookie keeps you logged in until you log out. These are explained in our Cookie Policy.

Technical logs

Our hosting provider (Hostinger) may record technical information such as your IP address, the time of your visit and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

Messages to us

If you write to us through the Contact form, we collect your name, your email address, the topic you chose, the page you were on and your message. We use them only to read and answer your message. The form sends them to our private storage and to an email inbox that only we can read. You can ask us to delete your message at any time.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or profile you.
  • At the time of writing we do not use website analytics. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

3. Our legal grounds

  • Consent for sending you emails. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • Legitimate interests for running and securing the site and limiting abuse. We keep this to the minimum needed.
  • Providing the service you asked for when we answer your chat questions.
  • Answering your message when you write to us through the Contact form (legitimate interests, and steps you ask us to take).

4. Who we share data with

We share data only with companies that help us run the site, and only as needed:

  • the AI service provider that writes chat answers (currently Anthropic);
  • our hosting provider (Hostinger);
  • an email service (Google Mail) that delivers contact messages and sign-up notices to our inbox;
  • an email service provider, once we start sending the weekly letter through one. We will name it here when we do.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

5. Transfers outside your country

Tipsy Juniper may be used from many countries, and some of our providers are based in other countries, including the United States. Your data may therefore be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, for example for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Brazil and other countries with transfer rules, we rely on approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

6. How long we keep data

  • Chat messages: not stored by us.
  • Hashed IP counters: about 35 days.
  • Email address and consent record: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Local storage items: until you clear your browser data.
  • Messages you send us through the Contact form: as long as needed to deal with your request.
  • Your cookie choice and age answer: until you clear your browser data.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for access to your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To use any of these rights, use the Contact option in the menu at the top of any page and choose "Privacy or data request". We will reply within the time the law allows.

You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country. We aim to respect the privacy rights the law gives you wherever you live, including under laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, Brazil's LGPD, Canada's PIPEDA, Australia's Privacy Act, and the privacy laws of US states. If you live in the United States, see the next section.

8. Your US state privacy rights

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia or Texas, you may have the following rights:

  • to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and to get a copy of it;
  • to correct inaccurate personal information;
  • to delete your personal information, with some exceptions;
  • to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information, and of targeted advertising and profiling;
  • to not be treated unfairly for using your rights.

What we collect, in US legal terms. In the past 12 months we may have collected: identifiers (your email address, and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address); internet activity limited to your use of the chat and our pages (the text of chat questions is processed to answer you and is not stored by us); and the choices you give us, such as your consent to receive emails. We do not collect sensitive personal information, such as precise location, government ID numbers, health information or financial information.

We do not sell or share your personal information. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We do not use cookies or trackers for advertising. Because of this, there is nothing to opt out of today. If you send us a Global Privacy Control signal or ask us to opt you out, we will honor it.

How to use your rights. Use the Contact option in the menu at the top of any page, choose "Privacy or data request" and tell us what you would like. We may need to confirm your identity, for example by replying from the email address we hold. You can ask someone else (an authorized agent) to make a request for you. We aim to reply within 45 days. If we decline, you may be able to appeal by replying to our message, and you may contact your state attorney general.

Do Not Track. We do not track you across other websites, so we do not need to respond differently to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

California "Shine the Light". We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

9. Age

This site is for adults of legal drinking age, which is 21 in the United States and differs in other countries. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the legal drinking age, and we never knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (see the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). If you believe a young person has given us their data, please write to us and we will delete it.

10. AI answers

Chat answers are generated by artificial intelligence. They are not decisions about you and have no legal effect. They can be wrong, so please read our Disclaimer.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, such as keeping access keys out of the website code and storing IP addresses only in scrambled form. No online service can promise perfect security.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. If we make an important change, we will tell you on the site or by email.

13. Contact
